What is the Neighborhood
Crime Watch?
-
Crime
Watch is a group of neighbors looking out for neighbors & a
critical link between law enforcement & the community.
-
It's
getting to know each other and becoming familiar with the residents so
that you will know when something is suspicious or out of the
ordinary.
-
Crime
Watch participants report suspicious activity by calling law
enforcement. After calling the authorities, also notify your Crime
Watch Block Captain if you have one or call your neighbors.
-
Participants
do not take the law into their own hands and are encouraged not to
confront potential suspects or take personal risks under any
circumstance.
-
Participants
will also work closely with the Board of Directors & Architectural
Committee to report code violations.
-
All
of this does not make you a nosy neighbor but makes you a good
neighbor!
How Do I
Participate?
-
Anyone
is welcome to participate and our goal is to have a dedicated block
captain for each block in our community who will be available to
contact the 10-20 residents within their block in the event of
suspicious activity. The more block captains that volunteer, the safer
we all are & the fewer homes each block captain will be
responsible for.
-
Representatives
from the Richland County Sheriff's Department are eager to assist our
program and provide various methods of support to our program
including literature & training for anyone interested.
